Project Description
Sustainext is a Flagship European project led by Natac that will transform the production of plant extracts in an innovative, sustainable process. The aim is to develop a smart, efficient plant in Hervás (Extremadura), using advanced technologies to maximize resources and minimize waste. This project will make our Hervás plant a reference for sustainability and will set a new standard in the production of natural ingredients, with a circular bioeconomy model and a focus on “zero waste.” In addition, it also promotes the growing of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (AMP) as an alternative to planting tobacco, as well as the valorization of agri-food biomass (olive, artichoke, cardoon, etc.), integrating an agrivoltaic model that combines crops and renewable energy to optimize land use.
Financed by Horizon Europe, with the cooperation of 21 international partners, SUSTAINEXT will position Natac as a global leader in sustainability and efficiency, and will serve as an example for European industry. It will also generate thousands of environmentally friendly jobs and contribute to local socioeconomic development.
Activities carried out by Natac:
Natac is the coordinator of the SUSTAINEXT and promoter of the Flagship. Our main role is to build and operate the Flagship, and to lead the project coordination, ensuring that objectives are met and with the expected impact. We also participate with the rest of the partners in each of the proposed activities, from the growing of the raw material to the exploitation of the end products in the different target markets.
